This CD is easy on the ears and spiritually very rewarding. Love, nature, and reflection are the themes of most of these songs. There are translations of ancient Sanskrit love lyrics, poems of devotion and ecstasy, and even vignettes of ordinary experiences.
The music is tonal and lyrical, with emphasis on a melodic vocal line, and the subtle accompaniment supports rather than competes with the melody. The style of the music changes to express the color and mood of the text.
Two artists from different areas of the United States have combined their talents to create this wonderful collection of songs. Aurora Northland, composer and pianist from the North Woods of Minnesota, and Elinor Amlen, soprano from New York City, have been making music since 1981. Their collaboration has resulted in concerts and recordings, many of the former with the help of grants from Meet the Composer.
